About Me
Samantha Salmi is a Chicago based director and stage manager. Originally from the Chicago suburbs, they graduated from Carthage College in May of 2020 with their BA in directing. After discovering their love for directing in high school, Sam knew they wanted to make that the focus of their studies in undergrad. During those four years, they also found that their organization and leadership skills drew them to stage managing, or assistant stage managing, with an equal amount of passion. Sam is particularly drawn to feminist, LGBTQIA+ theatre, as they identify strongly with both of those communities. During the summer of 2021, Sam moved to Chicago and dove right into the theatre scene. They have found that directing and stage managing to be the perfect combination of her artistic skill sets and love of collaboration. In their free time, Sam enjoys reading, traveling, and redecorating their space.

As a director:
I love to explore every aspect of the human experience. Storytelling is the key to connection, and empathy is the key to growth. Creating an experience as opposed to a direct narrative is something I strive to do through collaboration and curiosity.
As a stage manager:
Collaboration and organization are the keys to successfully running a show. I always make sure my team is frequently communicating in effective ways, as well as keeping up a high standard of ethical rehearsal practices. I was also certified in Covid safety training in November 2021, so I am well equipped with the knowledge to keep everyone safe during these unprecedented times.
